Auction LOT #4 (Yellow)
Auction LOT #4 (Yellow)
This pair of items is not strictly for thoroughbred or racing fans, but these are charming and special items for lovers of other equines!
a.) This sweet, gold-toned metal pin, probably from the 1980s, shows the distinctive gait of the Tennessee Walker breed in lively detail. It's a bit over an inch in height and width and really captures the horse's jaunty spirit. Check out some other great vintage pin options in LOT 5, LOT 14, LOT 16, and LOT 19!
b.) To our knowledge, this dainty, 18k gold-plated (!) watch celebrating the Morgan Horse is new-old stock that's never been worn. Our guess is that it's also from the early 1980s.The faux-croc band makes the total length about 8 1/2 inches, which will probably fit up to an 8-inch wrist, although, of course, the band can be replaced as needed. The small watch face is just under an inch across. Besides showing a sihouetted rider and horse, it reads "Since 1789," the year of the Morgan breed's founding from a single sire.
The maker is Image Watches (founded 1978) of El Monte, California, which is still in business. The band is slightly creased where it was probably long-displayed with the buckle clasped, but the backing decal is still intact on the watch's case, along with its stamp of quality Japanese movement. With a new battery, this vintage piece should be as functional as it is adorable. We think it will make some lucky Morgan-lover an exceptional, wearable treasure!
